Dąbrowa Górnicza is best depicted as an industrial city. Most of the companies do business in the field of trading and repair-work – 4514, in all.  1061 companies (all large entities, generating a nett profit) are industrial, 1360 of which are in the construction sector, and 2422 are involved in property sales and renting, or services ancillary to business activities. Only a relatively small number of companies – 379 - operates in the hotel and restaurant sector. By way of comparison, in the competitor city of Sosnowiec, there are only 737 businesses, and in the city of Tychy, with a similar population to Dąbrowa’s, only 407.

Dąbrowa Górnicza attracts investors from a variety of industrial sectors. There is Poland’s largest steelworks, ArcelorMittal Poland, and one of Europe’s largest coking plants, Przyjaźń Sp. z o.o. Over the space of only a couple of years, many manufacturing and services plants were built within the special economic sub-zone located in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
