Economic potential of the city and the region

Dąbrowa Górnicza’s economy is primarily determined by the activities of the 17 largest companies, each employing in excess of 250 people. The second group comprises 122 firms, each employing from 50 to 250 people. 155 businesses are companies with foreign capital (Indo-British, French, Italian, Swiss, German, Belgian, Austrian and Spanish).

After years of domination by the mining, steel and coke industries, i.e. traditional heavy industry, the service and food-processing sectors have been gaining importance. However, the dominant businesses are Arcelor Mittal Poland S.A., JSW KOKS S.A., Huta Bankowa Sp. z o.o. and Stalprofil SA.

These are well-known brand names which are the driving forces of the Dąbrowa economy. Despite operating within traditional economic sectors, the companies in Dąbrowa Górnicza invest in novel technologies, have their own laboratories where they carry out analyses and do research, and are transforming their production processes into modern, ecologically sound ones.

Over the past 15 years, the presence of construction companies, glass manufacturers, the automotive industry and plastics processing firms, as well as the electronics and food industries, has been strongly felt. Owing to the city’s advantageous location and proximity of the Freight Terminal at Sławków, which allows convenient transport of goods by rail to Ukraine, Russia and Asia (including China) – Dąbrowa Górnicza marks its presence on the map of international logistic centres.

Having attractive investment land and a broad-based supply of staff at its disposal, the city offers tremendous opportunities for the development of business undertakings. Those which support economic activation, and investment based on modern, environment-friendly technologies and innovative initiatives in the sphere of recreation and tourism will be given priority.

202,59 ha of the city area is included within the Katowice Special Economic Zone (Sosnowiec-Dąbrowa Subzone). Entrepreneurs who decide to make investments on land situated within the zone can count on special tax relief. The city itself makes an effort to support new investments, too. For entrepreneurs making investments in Dąbrowa Górnicza and creating new workplaces, a resolution has been passed exempting erected buildings and their components from taxation.

Expo Silesia Exhibition Centre in Sosnowiec – organizer of many national and international events and fairs, play an important role in economic development and attracting new investments.
